HOW TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU WANT

I am the student and life is my teacher and right now, I’m definitely in double period physics class. I’m, what I like to call, sitting in the sh*t. Here’s where I let out the big *sigh*.

Sitting in the sh*t – we all know it and we’ve all been there. Remember when he dumped you, when you got fired, or when someone you love passed away. Yeah, it’s that feeling. When you can do nothing else but feel it, live it and decide how to go on. Life has been very challenging for me lately- moving, important people in my life letting me down, getting a new job, etc. So while I am sitting in my sh*t, I’ve been thinking- what can I do to make my life better? Planning- how I am going to make better choices? And doing- putting one foot in front of the other and moving ahead. Also, I have come up with 12 ways (things to remember) to live the life that I have always wanted. I hope they help you to:

Just because you were, doesn’t mean you are. The line from one of John Mayer’s songs says it best:

“Who says I can’t be free?
From all of the things that I used to be
Re-write my history
Who says I can’t be free?”

Live like your dog. Our dogs have it right . They live in the moment.

Trust your gut: Listen to the whispers- thank you Oprah for this one. If you don’t listen to the whispers, eventually you will get hit with the brick upside your head.

Be your own hero: Sometimes, a lot actually, the only person you can rely on is you. Learn how to do this and take care of you.

Dream big and go after it. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. Believe in yourself and you will find the way.

You have to struggle to get there, so when you get there you can handle the struggles. Simply put, your struggles will make you the strong person you need to be when you get to where you want to go.

People do change. For better or worse. It’s their journey, not yours.

Your thoughts dictate the direction of your life. As Lao Tzu says, ” If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place.

If you don’t ask, the answer will always be NO.

Stop asking why, ask how! This is one of the best lessons I have ever been taught and one that I often need to remind myself of. Why is thinking backwards, how is thinking ahead.

Move, sleep and eat. When all else fails, get some exercise, sleep 8 hours, and nourish your body. It’s called survival.

If you don’t like who, what, where or how you are, CHANGE it. When life gets hard, do something about it. Reinvent yourself. That’s what I’m going to do.

You have probably noticed I have been blogging less lately. Besides, sitting in the sh*t :), I am working on getting my new business started here in Nantucket, MA. I am currently finishing my certification as a nutrition coach! I am really excited to bring you better nutrition info, fitness workouts and much more. But….for now I will still be blogging with you all, but not as much, until I get all the other stuff in order. Stay tuned for bigger and better things!
